corporate branding

COLOUR: Alot of Corporate branding design use a wide range of bright colours that stand out and catch the eyes of people that see it. but they only have one main colour for example one tone of green for the whole page. perhaps this is because corporate branding wants to save money and the goal is to just get the message across.

MAIN IMAGE: Most often the main image in Corporate branding is just typography or a photo or simple dawing again to save money and to produce the design as quickly as possible.

SPACE: Corporate branding design verys from having very large epmty spaces on the whole page to having no or very little empty space. however this aswell as the very simple design technique makes its easy to concertrate on the important parts of the page.
 (Wim Crouwel)
LAYOUT: Layouts of course depend on the artist the layout can change from the main image being dominant and placed anywhere on to the page or the can be no main image only typography.                      (josef muller)

COMPOSITION: Majorty of corporate branding is in portrait mode.text and images are placed to the side or in the middle of the page to draw in the viewers eye.

TEXT/TYPE: Alot of Corporate Branding design has text in it either typography or just simple text to help illustrate a point.

pre-digital

COLOUR: alot of pre-digital artists used alot of flat dull colours which often main the image look a little flat and dull.

MAIN IMAGE: most of pre-digital designs main images are simple line drawings of things like animals people  and objects. alot of these designs had intricate borders aswell.

SPACE: Most main images for pre-Digital design are most often very large they fills the entire page.

LAYOUT: Alot of pre digital design puts the main image in the middle with text to the side.                                                    (Heraldry)

TEXT/TYPE: text is one colour and one font very simple but still relates to the main image.

grunge/hand made

COLOUR: Grunge even though its a wide range concertrates on the duller colours like browns dark oranges and faded blues. creating a dirty/messy effect. the dark colours help to make grunge look untidy and 'dark'.

MAIN IMAGE: the main image in grunge/hand made design are most often photos and or collarges of photos mostly of peoples faces or buildings. another technique is layering photos to give a 3d look to them.

(Eduardo Recife)

LAYOUT: Layout for grunge is crazy its spred out over the entire page at first the piece may not make any sense or be clear at first and that helps with the effect of dirty and messyness.
                                                                                                                             (sabrina ward harrison)

COMPOSITION: Grunge Composition is much like collarge its messy the main image isnt very clear and is often piled under alot of other art on the page. its spread to the very edges even going off the page.

TEXT/TYPE: alot of Grunge/Handmade fonts are made by the artist themselves created either digitally or with stencils.

illustration

COLOUR: most of modern illustration uses simple black and white images or very bright highly saturated colours.                                                                                                                           (Art Chantry)
MAIN IMAGE: the point of illustartion is 'Mainimage' so the mian image is very simple and domiant in the centre of the page.
SPACE: illustration puts the main image in the centre of the page useally with a one colour or white background. the backgroung colour helps the main image stand out and keeps it from touching the edges.

LAYOUT: in the design style Illustration the main image is the center of attention and is placed in the middle of the page creating a strong point of focus.

COMPOSITION: composition in design makes a very clear and ballanced relationship between the main image and the background making it a strong form of art.
         (Dick Bruna)
TEXT/TYPE: text is very rearly used in illustration. but when it is its clear and easy to read but standing alone and not really part of the image. text can be used to help get the point across.

comics / garffiti

COLOUR: colour in Comics/Graffiti style design vaerys alot depending on the artist it can rang from full black and white to a full range of colours on one piece of work. however weither it is black and white or full colour it is always contrasting and this makes comics/graffiti so effective.
                                   (Frank Miller)
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   (Mike Giant)
MAIN IMAGE: the Main Image for Comics and graffiti depends on the artist it could be photographs or inked drawings or cartoons or a mixture of both. either of these styles vairy in colour aswell from highly contrasting black and whites or very bright colourful graffiti pieces.

LAYOUT: comics is a form of telling a story. sometimes without any dialoge at all but they always try to achieve that as clearly as possible. Graffiti conserntrates mostly on the main image and making it stand out as much as possible.                                                                                                             (Patric Brown)

COMPOSITION: graffiti is all about the main image or text. the art is placed in the middle of the page. comics are stories and are set out in panals these change shape and size depending on whats happening in the story at the time.

(Misery)

TEXT/TYPE: Comic text is useally very clear and very simple to understand. graffiti is different the text can often be the main image its quite similer to typography. graffiti text isnt easy or clear to read and is useally very brightly coloured.

SPACE: Graffiti has no space restrictions it can be as large or as small as it wants. weither as comics have restriction to the pannals and the page size.

typography

(David Carson)

COLOUR: Colour is a very important part of Typography type design it seems that almost every possible colour can be used on one design and is sometimes overpowering to the eye.

SPACE: the space in typography is most often very cramed everything is tightly squeezed onto the page with no or very little room for anything else.

              (neville brody)                                                                            (hurb lubalin)

MAIN IMAGE: in Typography there isnt really a 'Main Image' inplace of that there are large scale letters or works that substute for a main image.

LAYOUT: for typography the layout used to create alot of contrast with much empty space behind the cramed text.

TEXT/TYPE: the text in typography is the key part to this style of design it replaces the main image completely and is araged in a way that catches the eye.

early to mid 20th century

MAIN IMAGE: many main images. very easy to see and clear. dominating main image.

SPACE: main imagaie most often placed in the centre with plenty of space surrounding which made it easy to concertrate on the main image.

INFLUENCES:  most of the early to mid 20th century design was inspired by
Large corprate companys that needed logos.
                                                             (Jan Tschichold)

COMPOSITION: The main image is most often placed in the center with
a one colour background surrounding it to make the main image stand out.

TEXT/TYPE: text is placed either on top or under neath the main image and is very clear to read.
